Porsche unveils the All-Electric Concet Car: The Mission E

Porsche debuted their All-Electric Mission E Concept Car at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Porsche unveiled the Mission E Concept, a four-seat, battery-powered sports car. The all-electric vehicle, a first in the brand’s 84-year history, stands a mere four feet, three inches from the ground and has a futuristic windswept shape. It runs 310 miles between charges, and two motors evenly distribute 600 horsepower to all four wheels, zooming the car from 0 to 62 m.p.h. in under 3.5 seconds.
It wouldn’t be a Porsche event though without some sort of record being broken. During the unveiling, the company announced that the Mission E Concept can be charged to approximately 80 percent of its battery capacity in 15 minutes—even faster than Tesla’s Model S. The makers of that car can take heart in the fact that their vehicle has been on the road for three years now.

The new Porsche Macan GTS

The new Macan GTS. Life, Intensified.

What turns a powerful sports enthusiast into an exceptional top athlete? Intensive training. The result can be seen immediately – as the sportiest interpretation of the series. The Macan GTS is more muscular, sharper, lower and always ready for action. The exclusive 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels in satin black are reminiscent of motorsport and look as sporty as they are exclusive. The intensive color of the red brake calipers clearly promises high performance. The black Bi-Xenon main headlights and tinted LED taillights are standard equipment and catch the eye at any time of day. An unmistakable Porsche look is provided by the new optional LED headlights. Further black accents contrast with the exterior color.

With one destination in mind: life itself. That’s the principle resolutely followed by the interior of the Macan GTS. It perfectly integrates the driver. All of the functions are clear and close to hand. The centrally positioned tachometer stands out, thanks to its black instrument dial and ‘GTS logo’. The feeling of sitting in a sports car is ensured by the exclusive eight-way Sports seats, with ‘GTS’ logos embroidered on the headrests of the front seats and outer rear seats. Leather and aluminum trim strips emphasize the exclusive side of the Macan GTS – while Alcantara®, a material well known from motorsport, once again highlights its sporty side.

A legendary 1964 Porsche 356

She may have sung about Mercedes Benz, but Janis Joplin owned a Porsche—a 1964 Porsche 356C Cabriolet, to be exact. The psychedelic roadster has a (nearly) 100-horsepower engine, progressive disc brakes, authentic non-power steering, a body weight of next to nothing, and if you’re lucky, the four-speed manual transmission will hit 60 miles per hour in 10 seconds. Driving it feels as if you’ve stepped back in time to join the glory days of motoring: With its short, little snub nose, low ride, and that four-speed manual transmission, you'll achieve total road contact between human and machine.

She bought the car used, off a lot in 1968, and let her artist friend, Dave Richards, paint jellyfish and butterflies all over it. They called it a kaleidoscopic rendition of the "history of the universe."
When you slip inside the 365 it's like touching a ghost—you can almost smell patchouli.
With Porsche character intact, it starts right up. Like Joplin's rock ballads, her darling little Porsche has stood the test of time.

The new Porsche Macan GTS

Porsche is expanding both its Macan line and its range of GTS models with the launch of the new Macan GTS. The new performance model slots in between the Macan S and Macan Turbo, packing a mightier punch, upgraded equipment, and sportier styling. The improvements naturally start under the hood, where the Macan GTS packs a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, good for 360 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The result is a 0-60 time quoted at 5.0 seconds (or 4.8 with the optional Sport Chrono pack) and a top speed of 159 miles per hour. Of course, Porsche didn't just tinker with the engine and leave it at that. Compared to the Macan S, the GTS features a retuned air suspension, recalibrated electronics, ride height lowered by 10 millimeters, and 20-inch wheels with a matte black finish.

The New Porsche 911

Since its debut, the 911 has been constantly updated while retaining the same unmistakable look and design philosophy. The design and lines follow in the 911 tradition but this time, the lines of new 911 are even more precise. A new lighting design and 4-point LED daytime running lights are now integrated into the Bi-Xenon headlights, with even narrower direction indicators. The cooling intakes are larger and the design is even more striking. The side air intakes have the new active cooling air flaps that control the aerodynamics and cooling as needed.

Porsche Cayman: Black Edition

Style. Class. And a certain amount of sass. The Porsche Cayman Black Edition have further enhanced these characteristics. With the performance you expect from Porsche and assurance that leaves no question unanswered. Pure and simple, the Cayman has gotten something to once again heighten the sports car fascination. The object of desire.

A design that sticks in the mind: that distinctive nose. The wings are higher than the front lid – as they should be on a Porsche. Other characteristic Porsche features include the side air intakes behind the doors, the low silhouette and the long wheelbase. Bi-Xenon headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) are standard equipment, just like the 20-inch Carrera Classic wheels. Made for taking every curve it deserves. The black interior attracts attention as well: door sill guards with ‘Black Edition’ logo, the grip of the SportDesign steering wheel,  Sports seats with the Porsche Crest embossed on the headrests and Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module. Everything follows one design, one that, with every line, every edge, demands more. The new Cayman Black Edition shows that you don’t have to be loud to make a point.

1964 Porsche 356C - Jay Leno's Garage

The most recent episode of Jay Leno's Garage is nearly 30-minutes of pure Porsche 356 goodness. The owner of a 1964 356C that just went through a restoration gives us a short walk around of his car followed by in-depth observations by early Porsche expert John Willhoit, who owns the business that performed the restoration.
If you can push through 20-or-so minutes of Leno and Willhoit geeking out on the finer details of hot-rodding a 356, you're bound to learn something about what it takes to perform a top-flight 356 restoration, how Willhiot squeezes 145 horsepower from a 2.1-liter flat-four, what to look for in motor oil for classic cars, and more. And then Leno takes the old Porsche out for a drive.

Winterizing your Porsche

1. Set the date.

2. Wash and clean, inside and out including the wheels. The car should be taken for a short test drive after being washed to dry out the brakes.

3. Gas it up to keep out unwanted condensation or water build up that can happen when a car sits all winter long. If your garage is not climate controlled you might want to include a fuel additive. Read the directions and use the proper amount for your tank size. Put it in prior to filling the tank and then make sure you drive for a few miles to get the additive throughout the entire fuel system.

4. Inflate Tires to about 3.5 bar or 50 psi to prevent flat spots.

5. Check and/or top off the anti-freeze. Once topped off, be sure to run the car for a few minutes to ensure that fluids are properly circulated throughout the engine block.

6. Disconnect the battery or attach a trickle charger. Avoid starting your Porsche and letting it “warm-up” or run to charge the battery. This simply allows condensation to develop or collect in your motor and you won’t get it hot enough to burn it off. Things to remember if you do decide to disconnect the battery:
a. Always disconnect the negative terminal.
b. If applicable, you will need to have your radio code handy in the spring to get your system functioning again (RSP-Motorsports can help you with this).
c. If your Porsche is equipped with an electric hood latch, be sure not to close the hood all the way. If you do, give RSP-Motorsports a call in the spring. A simple way to avoid this is to place a small piece of
foam padding under the latch preventing it from engaging.

7. No Parking Brake. Put the car in gear or park and don’t apply the parking brake. Why risk having the parking brake freeze or bind over months of storage. If you are worried about your Porsche going for a drive without you behind the wheel, a simple and inexpensive wheel chock works very well or grab a piece of wood from the wood pile and snug it under a tire. This will work just as well.

8. Cover it. Even if your car is stored in a garage, it’s a good idea to keep it covered this way you don’t have to worry about anyone or anything bumping into or crawling on or over your nice paint.

9. Save some Money. Call your insurance company and let them know the car is off the road.

The new Porsche Cayman GT4

The 385-hp Cayman GT4 is even fiercer. Its chassis setup is almost indistinguishable from the current 911 GT3’s. A big, fixed rear wing sits above a mini-duckbill spoiler to increase downforce. Both cars start for about the same money as a base 911. Of course, you’ll be tempted by the list of options, including carbon-ceramic brakes and insanely comfortable bucket seats made out of carbon-fiber composite. For the GT4, Porsche also offers a Sport Chrono package with an all-new Track Precision smartphone app. Like the Boxster Spyder, no automatic transmission is offered.

The new Porsche Boxster Spyder

As is its tradition, Porsche has saved the best for last. The Boxster Spyder and Cayman GT4 come just as the convertible and coupe near their next major update, and they’re awesome. The Boxster Spyder is the lightest Boxster in the lineup and, with 375 hp, the most powerful. The Spyder has the suspension from a Boxster GTS and the brakes from a 911 Carrera S. There’s no radio or air-conditioning but who needs them, you're driving a Porsche Boxster Spyder(although both can be optioned). One option you can’t get? An automatic transmission.
